The sustainable building specialists
Urbane Eco is a leading sustainable building company based in Bristol. Managing Director Nick Lloyd has been a builder for over forty years and has taken a special interest in sustainable building and energy efficiency over the last 10+ years.
We install solid wall insulation, floor insulation, energy efficient windows and doors and warm roof systems. We also undertake whole house retrofits, as well as other building work, such as eco-friendly loft conversions and extensions. With our years of experience, we also have the expertise to take on new builds to PassivHaus standard or equivalent.
We believe that as well as being energy efficient, houses should be healthy places to live too – and our approach takes into account issues such as retained moisture, humidity, and the wider impact on the environment.

Meet the team!
Nick Lloyd
Managing Director
Nick’s discovered his passion for traditional building began in the 70s, and was later inspired by the pioneering work of the late Neil May MBE on breathability in building fabric. This led him to focus on sustainable construction, which remains central to his approach today. Read more about Nick in his Bristol Living interview.
Kyle Turner
Project Co-ordinator
Kyle holds an engineering degree from the University of Bristol, where he completed his thesis on ‘Retrofitting the UK Housing Stock’. An Excel whizz, he now oversees the operational side of the business, keeping the scheduling and supply lines on track, and the projects running smoothly.
Tom Armitage
Master Builder
With over fifteen years on the team, Tom is one of our most experienced builders and a trusted expert in sustainable construction. A true all-rounder, he brings depth, versatility, and hands-on knowledge to every stage of a project, from foundations to finishing touches.
Sid Stewart
Master Builder
Another long-standing member of the team, Sid is also a qualified Electrician, as well as being a highly experienced multi-tradesperson. Sid is ex-army, and you can tell this by his brilliant attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
Scott Taylor
Senior Builder
Scott has been with us for many years and has developed his eco-build credentials to the full. His considerable talent at rendering, plastering and bricklaying on all our many EWI jobs are a great asset to the team.
David Baird
Senior Builder
David had a successful career in ornamental plastering, but wanted to develop his skills further and so he made the decision to join Urbane Eco. He has excellent attention to detail, plus great all-round building skills.
Tom McGuinness
Builder
Tom was looking for the right company to develop his skills and train him up, and he came to the right place. Passionate about sustainable building, he is learning the ropes very quickly!
